I’ve been reading Thomas Limoncelli’s Time Management for System Administrators (book | kindle
) over the last well… few months, and while drafting up a sort of response/critique on the book, I came across the following videos (beware, they’re quite long).

Installing PostgreSQL In Fedora 13
While I’ve been prepping a post on tasks of a HSMM server, I realized that getting started with the awesomeness that is PostgreSQL on Fedora can be a little less than straight-forward if you haven’t used it before.
PostgreSQL, for those who aren’t familiar, is a enterprise class free database server. It bills itself as “The world’s most advanced open source database”, and that’s quite an understatement. There are other DB systems available for Fedora, and they may have their niches, may be easier to use, or be more popular with end-users, but eventually, many people will find themselves needing to use PostgreSQL for one reason or another.
SO! More on getting started…
High-Speed Multimedia Radio
I just sort of stumbled upon the Wikipedia article for High-speed multimedia radio today. I think I found a project that about covers every interest I have, can be done pretty inexpensively, and has a lot of development potential. As a radio amateur, there are provisions for me to modify existing equipment I have to run as amateur radio equipment. This means I can pop a server on a soft-modified router and up the output to 1500 watts.
Status Update for My Fedora Work
My schedule has been a bit more relaxed around the home front, so I’m hoping to work on some docs for the upcoming Fedora 14 release. Here’s how the alpha version of the Release Notes looks so far: Fedora 14 Alpha release notes.
The Docs Link
Here’s a link to the OpenNMS docs I’ve been working on in parallel to the actual ones. Keep in mind, these are completely unofficial!
I still have to work on the site template and branding a wee bit, but hopefully I can do that this weekend or late next week. Of course, there’s the content too. Comments? Concerns? Things you’d like to see?
